The Elation Women's Choir is based in Balwyn, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia and has about 40 members. It was founded in January 2001 with 18 enthusiasts, first as an a cappella choir but more recently singing accompanied repertoire.
The Founding Vision was to provide a musical haven where women committed to choral music could achieve choral excellence, a spirit of harmony and elation.
Elation sings for the sheer joy of singing, which is how it got its name, and rehearsals are very happy weekly occasions.
Entry to the choir is by audition, and intending members should contact the Director, Leigh Wigglesworth using the contact page for further details.
Choir members are committed to personal musical development and have a positive input to the general harmony within the choir. The repertoire (see the repertoire page for details) includes traditional works from the classics of many eras, together with arrangements of folk, spiritual and popular songs.
The choir gives regular performances during the year, with proceeds helping to cover running costs. Members also make a term donation. Occasionally, groups from within the choir give small-venue performances of world music, madrigals, or incidental music.
In 2006, a group of twelve sang in Federation Square as part of the Christmas community carols program.
