About the Director

Elation Women's Choir founder-conductor-director Leigh WigglesworthElation Women's Choir was founded by the current Director of the choir -
Leigh Wigglesworth OAM.

 

Leigh was born in England, and studied at the Royal College of Music ( London), and at Bristol ( UK), La Trobe and Melbourne Universities; she holds a Master of Education degree in music.

 

Leigh has held choral positions in several Melbourne Schools and community choirs, including Ivanhoe Grammar, the Australian Boys Choir, the Victorian Boys' Choir and St George's, East Ivanhoe. She has also directed the Box Hill U3A Choir.

 
Leigh has served on the Board of the Nursing Mothers' Association of Australia, and directed their production of the "Merrily, Merrily .   ."    and "Merrily at Christmas" books and tapes.

 

Other projects Leigh has undertaken include the "Catch a Little Song" tapes with other musicians interested in Kodaly and Orff techniques. Leigh has also collaborated with Noel Ancell in "Favourite Rounds & Canons", the ABCI collection of songs.

 

Leigh has served on the National Council of the Australian National Choral Association, and from 1995- 2004 was Vice-President of the Victorian branch.

 
In the 2009 Australia Day Honours List, Leigh was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) 'for services to music as an artistic director and choral conductor and to the community'.
 

Since retirement from active teaching, Leigh has devoted her time and energies to the foundation and continuance of the Elation Women's Choir.
