Entry to the choir is by audition, held at the Director's home. Please make an appointment using the Contact Elation page.
What will happen at the audition?
The audition is an informal affair.
There is no need to prepare a song (unless you want to), or to feel intimidated if you have not sung for a long time - just be willing to join with me in some fun-music-making!
Just stay relaxed and free of vocal tension.
What will be tested?
Your ability to match pitch, and to sing along with another voice.
How will you be tested?
We will sing together a simple tune you know - you choose!
Some songs that would do: Frere Jacques, or Silent Night, Hot Cross Buns or Away in a Manger,
or anything else you know well, so long as it is simple.
Is that all?
More or less. We'll talk about your knowledge of music notation, and tap a simple rhythm or two. Maybe discuss what support you'll need to help you learn your harmony part, and whether you have time available in your schedule to set aside for music-learning. That's all.
Do I need to have a trained solo voice?
Absolutely not! In fact trained soloists sometimes find it very difficult to be absorbed into a choral blended tone. It does help to have a trained singer's understanding of breathing and voice production though.
